Here’s another press release about “Meeting People is Easy”:

Hollywood and Vine Teams Up with SonicNet and Broadcast.com to Chat with Radiohead Film Director and Host Exclusive 24-Hour Preview
01:38 p.m Mar 19, 1999 Eastern

NEW YORK–(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)–March 19, 1999–To help kick-off a month long, five-city tour of the behind-the-scenes, multi-media collage about Radiohead, “Meeting People Is Easy,” film and video director Grant Gee will chat on SonicNet on Monday, March 22nd at 6:00 PM ET/3:00 PM PT. Preceding the web chat, Broadcast.com will run a 15-minute excerpt for 24 hours, giving fans the opportunity to preview the film before the chat. The preview begins on Sunday, March 21st at 7:00 PM ET/4:00 PM PT. Fans can view the film and join the chat by logging onto http://www.hollywoodandvine.com. They can also enter a random drawing during the chat to win a DVD copy of the film upon release.

After premiering at the SXSW Music and Film Conference in Austin, TX on March 20th, “Meeting People Is Easy” will show in theaters for a limited time in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago and San Francisco before being released as a home video and DVD on May 4th. A full screening itinerary follows on the back (please note New York Angelika Film Center screenings are now Friday and Saturday, April 2-3).

For those asking about how and where to get tickets to the screenings, the Music Box Theater box office in Chicago will be selling them just like they would sell tickets to any other movie. I’m assuming that this is the same for all the other theaters showing the film. Contact the box offices for more info.

On the rumor front, it seems that Radiohead will be contributing to a Smiths tribute album in the near future. That is all the info that I have. The band are big fans of the Smiths and Ed has said in interviews that “the Smiths were the reason Radiohead formed.”

OK Computer Radiohead Thom Yorke tour

News for February 28, 1999

There is a rumor floating around that Radiohead might be the supporting act on R.E.M.’s summer tour. More on that as it becomes available.

Another R.E.M./Radiohead project is in the works. R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe recently said in an interview that he and Thom have recorded a duet together. There is no release date or title available yet. Here’s a clip of the interview:

“Yeah, I mean Thom is an amazing singer,” added Stipe. “We know a lot of amazing singers and musicians and any good opportunity to work with them would be welcome. I’m not saying it will happen, I’m saying, speaking for three of us, we would love to work with Thom or any of the guys from Radiohead. We would love to work again with Patti Smith, with any of the guys from Grant Lee Phillips or Bjork or Natalie Merchant.”

You can read the full R.E.M. article by pointing your mouse or trackball here. thanks to Will Campbell

There is a chance that Radiohead might take part again in this year’s Tibetan Freedom Concert. It will be held in four different cities this June. For more info on the concert, or to learn about the whole free Tibet thing, go here.

The tour documentary, Meeting People is Easy, won’t be released until April 20 in the U.S. It is available for purchase in Europe. For those who don’t know about it, here is a quick rundown:

“a bunch of articulate, essentially shy people who, somehow, are able to create this huge, astonishing music and as a result find themselves in the strange/insane/seductive world of end-of-the-century-celebrity with thousands of people wanting to meet them, thousands of cameras and microphones constantly siphoning off little bits of them.” – grant gee, director. he followed the band around and basically filmed there every move while they campaigned for OK COMPUTER. You might know him also as directing the No Surprises video.

More info later.
cheers.

not much to report today.

there are two online polls that you may take part in, if that’s your thing. addicted to noise is having a reader’s poll and radiohead in nominated for artist, live band, album, tour, and video of the year. go here to place your vote.

usa today is having a grammy poll. currently, radiohead is in the lead for best album. this, of course, is for entertainment and has no effect on the outcome.

i trust i can rely on your vote.

still no word on the upcoming tour with bjork. another rumor is that they’ll both be playing in ICELAND together sometime this spring. i seriously doubt that, but you never know…

correction: bjork will be opening up for radiohead in toronto on april 12, not march 12. please adjust your day planners accordingly.

rumors are everywhere! the latest: a cleveland DJ announced on January 13 that radiohead would be on the lollapalooza 1998 bill. sheesh! also rumors of a washington d.c. and new york gig in april.

for all you folks in australia, MTV australia will be showing a special about the band on february 8. the festivities include a videography, a rockumentary, and a live concert special (probably last month’s Live at the 10 Spot.)

radiohead came away from this year’s NME awards with Best Album for OK COMPUTER and Best Radio One Evening Session. Thom thanked the people rather reluctantly from japan over the phone. [from radiohead-announce]

one last note: phil reportedly didn’t return to the band’s encore at the Fukuoka gig due to illness. we all hope that he is OK now.

from spin online:

Radiohead Nixes Brit Awards
Radiohead’s Thom Yorke is not boycotting the upcoming Brit Awards as it’s been widely reported. Although Yorke did express his disgust with attending last year’s Brits, telling The New York Post “I thought, that’s it. That’s the last time we ever go to anything like that.” The band will not be attending because of tour commitments in Australia and New Zealand. Radiohead have not committed to playing the Grammy Awards on February 25th although rumor has it that the band’s label, Capitol, and the Grammy organization are very eager for the nominees to attend and perform.

the radiohead tour video that was filmed by Grant Gee, the camera man, is scheduled for release in CD and Video stores March 24, 1998. this is not official so it might change.

also floating around the rumor cloud, radiohead’s upcoming US tour will begin on March 27, 1998 with bjork. i don’t know the location yet, so please don’t email me asking. once i know anymore info, i’ll post it here immediately. the band is currently touring japan and will be in australia in february.

MTV UK will be showing 4 hours of radiohead (in concert, videos, interviews, etc…) on february 7, 1998 at 7:30pm.

radiohead’s chart position on the billboard 200 improved again this week. they jumped from last week’s 76 to this week’s 70.
