Last night Thom Yorke surprisingly showed up at Low End Theory in Los Angeles where he DJ’d alongside Flying Lotus and Gaslamp Killer. His DJ set included Burial, Modeselektor, Kraftwerk, Squarepusher, Madvillain, Major Lazer, among other things and laster about an hour and 20 minutes. Nigel Godrich was also there.

This isn’t the first time Thom has done a surprise DJ set in LA. You may remember that in 2009 he showed up and did a DJ set at the Roosevelt.

Were you there? Let us know in the comments!

UPDATE: More from the LA Times after the jump.

Radiohead The King of Limbs Thom Yorke

Gilles Peterson thinks Radiohead’s album is done. Or not.

Okay, take this for what it’s worth, but Thom Yorke appeared at The Worldwide Awards 2011, where he presented Flying Lotus with the award for “Album of the Year”. BBC 1’s Gilles Peterson chatted with Thom and FlyLo afterwards and apparently Thom indicated that the new Radiohead album is done. Unfortunately, this wasn’t captured on video (below) so all we have to go by is Peterson’s word.

Peterson says:

“I think we’re just lucky that Radiohead are having some free time at the moment. And Thom was just hanging out. He enjoyed himself. And there’s a new Radiohead album if you’re wondering. Just done I believe,”

Peterson said this during his Worldwide Awards highlight show on BBC 1 and you can listen to the clip here (the part about Radiohead begins at 1:26).

Here’s a video of the Thom, Flying Lotus, and Peterson talking:

Nothing official is confirmed so we’ll just keep this in the rumor bin.

Interview with Flying Lotus

Flying Lotus

Steve Ellison, aka Flying Lotus, recently sat down with The Quietus to talk about his latest album, Cosmogramma. Also talked about was Thom Yorke’s involvement on one of the songs:

So. Thom Yorke is on Cosmogramma – guess I’d better ask, how did that come about?

SE: He had heard some stuff from a while back, and Radiohead commissioned me to do a remix for their Reckoning thing. I met up with Thom once after that. It was brief but really cool. We didn’t speak much about continuing the work, but I remember thinking how cool it would be if I could get him on the record. Mary-Anne Hobbs is a friend of his, and I think she encouraged it – so he hit me up, got in touch that day and asked me to send some tunes. I sent him a folder, and two days later I had the song in my email, with all these parts to work with. It was really cool, super-chilled out, considering what a big star he is. I’m really thankful, because the universe he’s created is a very special one, and he doesn’t invite many people into it.

What is the song about? Did you discuss with him what the lyrics might be about?

SE: He used the title I gave him [‘…And The World Laughs With You’]– that was another super-crazy thing. It meant a lot to me, the song title. That tune comes from a fucking tough time in my life. It’s like, as the song says, laugh and the world laughs with you. Cry, and you cry alone. At the time I was really feeling that. People don’t really care to be around when you’re going through tough times. No–one really know what you’re going through.

Flying Lotus & Thom Yorke at Trader Joe’s

Well, not really. Flying Lotus, who has been getting a lot of press recently, told Rolling Stone that he had a dream about Thom Yorke right before he was asked to be the opening act for the Radiohead frontman on the Atoms for Peace US tour.

“It was weird,” Lotus tells RS as he does the dishes in his Los Angeles apartment, just back from the South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, where he demolished a Wednesday 1 a.m. set to an adoring crowd of converts. “I had a dream I was an accomplice to some murder. I saw someone get killed and I didn’t say anything. I was walking the streets with it in the back of my mind and I wanted a beer so I go into Trader Joe’s and Thom Yorke’s in there, like, ‘Hey, let’s have a beer and a catch up.’

“I woke up from that to the e-mail saying he’d like me to join them on the tour,” Ellison says. “I wish I’d made it up,” he confesses. “I have weird stuff like that happen to me all the time.”

Thom and FlyLo also share the same birthday (October 7) and refers to Thom as his “astral” brother.

Flying Lotus does Idioteque

Flying Lotus performed a remix of Radiohead’s “Idioteque” last Friday at the Ann Arbor Film Festival after party at the Blind Pig. Flying Lotus, as you probably know, will be supporting Thom Yorke/Atoms for Peace in next month’s tour.
