RH on XFM

From XFM:

Dismiss your dodgy downloads and ignore inferior imitations, 104.9 Xfm will be playing the already legendary first single from Radiohead’s new album “Hail To The Thief” on Monday (April 14).
The term “highly anticipated” is something of an understatement, as the recent leaking of the “Hail To The Thief”, a series of instantly sold out UK gigs and an upcoming Glastonbury appearance have all whipped up a frenzy of interest about the new Radiohead album.
Now you can make up your own mind whether Thom Yorke and co have delivered the goods, when Zo? Ball plays out the new single “There There” live on her drivetime show starting at 4.00pm on Monday April 14. Not the unmastered, unmixed, shoddy version that has surfaced on the internet but the proper, actual, complete, kosher, de facto Radiohead-approved single.
Phil Selway and Ed O’Brien from the band will also be joining Zo? for an interview on her show on Tuesday May 28, and as if that wasn’t enough, in a world exclusive, Radiohead singer Thom Yorke will be giving 104.9 Xfm a track-by-track guide to a complete full album playback of “Hail To The Thief” on John Kennedy’s X-posure show, on Tuesday June 3.
For all the latest news and information about Radiohead keep it on 104.9 Xfm and www.xfm.co.uk.
“There There” will still be released on May 26 with the “Hail To The Thief” set to be launched officially on June 9, both on Parlophone Records.

In other news, BBC Radio 1 will be debuting “There There” on the Jo Whiley Show starting at 10:00 am.

Thom at Fairford

thomHere’s a transcript of some of Thom’s speech that he made on March 22 at the Fairford anti-war rally:

“My name’s Thom Yorke, I’m in a band called Radiohead. I don’t know if anybody’s heard of me. We feel strongly about this. I’ve spent a lot of time in America recently and I went to two demos in America, one in LA and one in San Francisco, and you’d be amazed how many Americans are scared shitless of this administration. They are terrified. They didn’t vote them in, they don’t want them in and they’re all on the streets, which, frankly, in LA is very unusual.

I reckon there’s probably people on the other side of this fence (RAF Fairford) who feel the same way. I think for the first time, a war is being waged and there is no way the majority of people in a so called democracy state believe in that war.

Why? Because America is being run by a bunch of religious maniac bigots who stole their election and their only way of retaining power is to wage a war. Find a war: Wage a war. Get the next election. They need this war before the next election, it’s the only reason it’s being fought. It is not moral it is self-seeking.”

Phil on leaked songs

Phil made an appearance on the official message board and had this to say:
“This is just a quick post. I too am disappointed that the album has already been uploaded onto the net. We don’t like anybody to hear our recordings until we are completely happy with them. These mixes of the songs were still “work in progress’. As such, we wouldn’t have chosen to present the album to people in this form. I feel that the recording process has been compromised for us. Its not that these mixes are bad, its just that the actual album is better – honest. Anyway, hope you’re all well. Hopefully will see some of you on our travels over the next year. Take care xx”.

Nigel and Air

From Astralwerks about Air’s new album:

“Air recorded more than one hour of music mixed by Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich, over which Baricco delivers evocative, sexually charged passages from “City” in his native Italian.”

City Reading (Tre Storie Western)

Earlier this week we launched the site for the brand new Air recording — a collaboration with Italian author Alessandro Baricco, and one of the most adventurous projects of the band’s career.

And here is some more information about why Air chose Nigel:

“When it came to mixing the album, we decided to work with Nigel Godrich, a “mix master” of sorts. We had known him for quite some time, since we first met him during Beck’s Mutations sessions. As you can tell from his name, Nigel doesn’t understand a word of Italian. Mixing the album was difficult, since we didn’t know how much to emphasize the voice, how loud or soft to make it. We hesitated a lot, because we don’t understand Italian, so we feared drowning out the voice in the music and losing the meaning of the text. We had no way of checking this.”
