JONATHAN GLAZER RETROSPECTIVE
This year?s director retrospective program surveys the exceptional work of British director Jonathan Glazer, whose work spans music videos, commercials and feature films; in each category, Glazer efforts invariably stand out. His incredible black-and-white ad for Guinness beer, titled Surfer, for example, was voted the best commercial of all time in one poll, with its crashing ocean waves seamlessly merging with charging white stallions. Other stand-outs include Street Spirit for Radiohead and Rabbit in Your Headlights for UNKLE, as well as a long list of award-winning commercials. In his first feature, Sexy Beast, Glazer bridged the aural and visual precision of his short form work with riveting performances to make the film one of the best of 2000. This fall will see the release of Glazer?s second feature, Birth, starring Nicole Kidman. Our program traces Glazer?s career to date, with commercials, music videos, trailers and rarely screened behind-the-scenes footage.

Radiohead Better Than Ashlee Simpson… Who Knew?

On his often updated journal where he constantly expresses his frustration with right-wingers, Moby decided to make a poignant political comparison that includes pitting our lads vs. the latest pop princess.

“you know what politics is/are like in the united states?
it’s like pop-music
example a: pop-music.
republicans are like ashley simpson, and democrats are like radiohead. radiohead fans will forever be mystified as to why someone would buy an ashley simpson cd, but ashley simpson’s handlers/managers understand what the lowest common denominator are looking for and they give it to them. radiohead fans think ‘that disposable pop music is terrible, and someday people will see the error of their ways and buy radiohead cd’s instead of ashley simpson cd’s’, meanwhile ashley simpson and her managers are selling millions of records?
my point?
yes, radiohead are better than ashley simpson.

RH Offer New Song On Warchildmusic.com

With the “soft-launch” of Warchildmusic.com earlier this month, a new track by Radiohead, available on September 9, is hoping to raise the awareness to this very worthy charitable project. War Child was founded in 1993 in reponse to the conflict in the former Yugoslavia and it’s music releases include the UK’s fastest-ever number one hit, 1995’s grounbreaking charity album, Help. The projects’s MD, James Topham, said of the new site, “Every track ? and we?re after everything from covers to acoustic versions, live recordings, alternative mixes, remixes or simply unreleased tunes – will be exclusive to Warchildmusic.” The download sales will aid all of War Child’s charity global relief work.
The Radiohead contribution is a reworking of “Go To Sleep” recorded live in Osaka, Japan, and remixed by Jonny Greenwood. The profits for the song will go directly to helping children in the world’s most troubled regions.
In addition, songs from the aforementioned Help album will be making their online debut with exclusive tracks by Radiohead, Oasis, Manic Street Preachers, Blur, The Charlatans, Massive Attack and The Stone Roses.

San Bernardino Sun likes Thom’s Dancing

Monday’s San Bernardino Sun had an article about singers who do (and don’t) dance well, and Thom ranked an honorable mention.

He’s an enigma, but he sure does get into his music. His dancing is more like running in place or high-knees in place, but it’s amazing to watch him shake his head and jump up and down and still be singing into the microphone.
Maybe Yorke could teach lip-synching Spears a thing or two.

You can go read the whole article here.
