Flashback: Paranoid Android on Jools Holland

We’ve linked to this performance before and thought that it deserved another mention. One of the better performances of “Paranoid Android” occurred on Later… with Jools Holland back in 1997. It’s clearly evident why Jonny used to wear that brace on his wrist due to RSI (repetitive strain injury). He abuses that guitar… in a good way.

Message from Phil

The message from Phil Selway was sent out to w.a.s.t.e. members today:

Before we start work on the next Radiohead album, I will foolishly be running in the London Marathon 2002, on Sunday 14th April.
I am writing to ask if you would kindly sponsor me for this event, and help me raise much-needed funds for The Samaritans.
The Samaritans are a UK-based charity who offer twenty-four-hour availability and support to people who are going through a period of crisis and who may have suicidal feelings.
They are part of a worldwide organisation called Befrienders International.
I’m hoping to run the Marathon in four hours. In those four hours, The Samaritans will take around 2,200 calls from people who are in need of emotional support. The Samaritans will listen to them, giving them the time and space to say how they are really feeling.
I’m aiming to raise 4,500, but hoping that the total will be much higher.
All sponsors will be entered into a draw to win the drumkit which I used on various tracks on OK Computer, including Exit Music and Paranoid Android. The kit is a five-piece cherry-red Premier XPK, complete with cymbal stands and a bass-drum pedal.
The ride and crash cymbals and hi-hats are made by Zildjian, and were also used in the OK Computer sessions.
To make a donation please use the link below where you can choose the amount to sponsor me.
http://www.waste.uk.com/SponsorPhil/index.html
Please be sure to give us your full name to add to a visitors book. We will then use this to pick the drumkit winner.
Thank you for your time and support.
With blisters on my feet,
Philip

XFM Top 104 List
Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ has crashed into the top spot in this year’s X-List. Coming in at No. 25 last year, ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ knocked last year’s winners, Radiohead , off the top spot. They do manage to cling on at at Number 2 although not with the X-List 2000 winner, ‘Just’ but with ‘Creep’, up 34 places from last year. Here’s how Radiohead did:

#2. Radiohead – ‘Creep’ (last year: 36)
#9. Radiohead – ‘Just’ (1)
#16. Radiohead – ‘Paranoid Android’ (New)
#37. Radiohead – ‘Fake Plastic Trees’ (16)

News for June 5, 2000

Ed and Phil were guests on Canal+’s “Nulle Part Ailleurs”, a French TV show, today. Their appearance was short and nothing new was announced. Phil mentioned that they had 13 new songs that they would begin to play on the summer tour.

Paris Metro Posters
The first concert posters have been put in some stations of Paris’ metro/underground/tube. They advertise the September bigtop concerts in paris and contain images from www.radiohead.com, along with two scary drawings (flying testbears over the city and scared citizens, and a giant man starbing) and other small text and phone lines for the FNAC and radiohead.com. It’s made of two similar parts, the only difference between the two being the drawings and the copyright: one is “poster by Stanley and Tchock”, the other by “Tchock and Stanley”. Concerts in Denmark
In the June 4 issue, the Danish newspaper, Ekstra Bladet, wrote that Radiohead will be playing two shows in Denmark on September 8th and 9th, 2000. As with the other concerts planned for this time, Radiohead will be bringing their own venue… in the form of a giant circus-type tent. (See May 26 news)
They also stated that the band would be making an appearance in Denmark tomorrow, June 6, 2000. Stay tuned….
