Diary of an audio engineer
What a fantastic find sent in to us by radiocoocooo. Graham, Radiohead’s audio engineer is keeping a daily blog on his MySpace about Radiohead’s tour rehearsals. He only has two posts so far, but it looks promising.
Today we had an old songs day! The band have decided that everyday we will cover 10 old songs first, Ive been supplied with CDs with more than 40 songs they propose to perform on this tour and then with the remaining time do some work on their new material. So in some ways it was much easier for me, everything suddenly became much more relative. As a monitor engineer I always have to deal with the artists parameters, for example, today they all wanted to use their wedge mixes instead of in ears, which was good because on stage they use a combination of the two. So again it was a mad mix day, with a great result!
Jonny made us all stop work for a while with his crazy samples, in fact we had to stop to wipe our tears from our eyes, how can you possibly turn a voice into the sound of ducks quacking! The boys are in fantastic form, absolutely dieing to get back doing live shows; the overall atmosphere has been great until something goes badly wrong. Technology has the great ability to stop doing what it is supposed to. Thom has a new set of in ear moulds, only used for 2 days, suddenly one side stops working, a hold up while for me to change the cable, and panic phone calls to the USA to get more supplies. So we finish the, again successful rehearsal, the boys go home and there is another few hours work getting everything ready for thier next appearance tomorrow. Id still rather do this than have a proper job any day!

Radiohead in San Francisco
It was reported earlier that San Francisco radio station LIVE 105 (who coincidentally is often credited for breaking Radiohead in the United States by airing the “Creep” import first in 1992) announced that Radiohead would be performing two shows at Berkeley’s Greek Theatre in June. LIVE 105 has responded to this by saying, “No, we did not. Nothing is official.”
While it is most likely true that Radiohead will be performing two dates in Berkeley, we are still waiting confirmation.

Radiohead in Philly
File this under rumors…
Radiohead will be performing at the Tower Theater in Philadelphia, PA on June 1 and 2.
We expect an official announcement very soon….
From our pals at Pitchfork:
Matthew Solarski reports:
Y’all better put up a chair for this one, folks. The paradox wrapped in an enigma with sprinkles of conundrum on top that is Radiohead has just announced– er, make that vaguely alluded to– a number of totally sketchy details surrounding their crazy-anticipated summer North American tour.
As Billboard recently reported, our beloved paranoia-rockers are “eyeing” several multiple-night stands in such New World metropolises as Montreal, Toronto, Philadelphia, and Chicago. The Chicago double-date is old news, but we are glad to learn Radiohead will still share love with our fair city after getting bushwhacked by those meanies in the Chitown Cultural Affairs Department (just kidding, we <3 u guys!).
So no set dates, no itinerary, no venues, no opening acts--just four cities that may or may not receive multiple dosages of live Radiohead action. That should entertain your water-cooler cronies for at least 45 seconds.
And this is good for another 15 or so: Radiohead mega-fan compendium/website At Ease alleges that inside sources have revealed two shows at Chicago's Auditorium Theatre (June 19 and 20), as well as a pair of gigs at Berkeley's Greek Theatre (allegedly reported by the San Francisco radio KITS, Live 105).
For kicks, Thom Yorke offered up a cryptic quote to NME about the Mysterious New Record, which is in label limbo as Radiohead's contract with EMI has expired. Quoth Yorke, "I think it's a nutty situation to be in to have no definite release system."
"It's really liberating not to feel part of the record company structure. It should be an extremely positive place to be in but it's also an extremely strange situation to be in." Positive and strange, got it.
As previously announced, Radiohead have several multiple-night stands in the EU already lined up, as well as their lone confirmed North American date, a headlining spot down on the farm at Bonnaroo.

In other, tabloid-worthy Radiohead news, Mr. Yorke was recently quoted in the NME as saying, "The fact that poor Arctic Monkeys are getting so much attention is purely based on the fact that the mainstream music business is such a bunch of fucking retards as far as I'm concerned."
Careful though. Yorke recently insisted the above quotation was taken out of context, and had a hearty chuckle, all in a recent post on the ever-quotable official Radiohead blog, Dead Air Space. Here's what the dude had to say:
"i remember now, tape recorders record what yu say .. which may be taken down and used as evidence against you at a later date. who is this jerk shooting his mouth off? misdirected. missquoted...distorted...out of context..."
"oh it s me. i think. but im not sure."
And finally, as Thom concluded, "HA ha ha ha oh :)"

Radiohead reveal ‘terrifying’ new album
Thom Yorke has compared writing for Radiohead’s new album to that on ‘OK Computer’ – but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying!
The group are recording with new producer Mark ‘Spike’ Stent (who has worked with Keane, Madonna and Oasis in the past) and in a world exclusive interview, Yorke said that despite rumours that the follow-up to ‘Hail To The Thief’ will have a political feel, in fact the opposite is true.
He said: “It’s about that anonymous fear thing, sitting in traffic, thinking, ‘I’m sure I’m supposed to be doing something else’.
Interestingly enough it’s similar to ‘OK Computer’ in a way. It’s much more terrifying. But ‘OK Computer’ was terrifying too -some of the lyrics were.”
Up to 16 tracks are being considered for the band’s next album, with current favourites including ‘Nude’, ’15 Step’, ‘Arpeggi’ and ‘House Of Cards’.
Next month fans will have the first chance to hear the songs on a European tour, which will visit Blackpool Empress Ballroom (May 12-13), Wolverhampton Civic Hall (15-16) and London Hammersmith Apollo (18-19) in the UK.
Writing on his diary at Radiohead.com, Yorke had previously said that the band are “finally getting somewhere”, and are optimistic about getting the songs right for the tour.
“Listening back to things we are doing and looking through the lyrics today and stuff it feels like we are finally getting somewhere”, he explained. “There are lots of songs. Too many to get together straight away. So we will be furiously rehearsing and writing as we go.
“I think we’ve always worked best when we aren’t bothered about making mistakes. Theres a lot of baggage about the old way of doing things that is hard to get over… all the ‘album’ crap. Just this level of pressure that is ridiculous. We’re just going to do what feels right at the time. Quite into the idea of singles at the moment (that don’t get on the radio). No grand design… wherever we are at. Some of the random stuff we have at the moment could be the most exciting.”
For the full world exclusive Radiohead interview check this week’s NME on sale nationally from April 5.
