Thom issues warning to Gordon Brown

Picture%2013.png

Friends of the Earth have uploaded a video by Thom Yorke which coincides with a “virtual march” to pressure members of Parliament to strengthen climate laws.

Thom says, “I’m reminding my MP to remind [new British Prime Minister] Gordon Brown that he’s committed to a bill to reduce our CO2 emissions double-quick-time, and if he doesn’t, we’re going to come down on him like a ton of bricks.”

You can record your own video and join the march. For information, please visit the Big Ask website.

Stanley named as one of the “Best Illustrators”

The Independent has listed Stanley Donwood as one of the “best illustrators” in British media today.

Stanley Donwood

More of a fine artist than illustrator, Stanley Donwood, 38, created the artwork for Radiohead’s album sleeves. The man himself is not one naturally drawn to the limelight. For years, the only way to contact him was to fax his local pub in Bath, from whence any communication would be forwarded to him. Much of Donwood’s work delights in rediscovering antiquated processes. A recent series of images, London Views, created a panorama of the capital out of 14 pieces of hand-cut linoleum, printed on a Victorian printing press. His latest work, If You Lived Here You’d Be Home By Now (recently shown at the Lazarides Gallery in London’s Soho), comprises a series of darkly compelling etchings that used the century-old photogravure technique.

You can read who else made the list by clicking here.

Ticketmaster: RH tickets on sale tomorrow

Picture%203.png
After last year’s ridiculous story about Ticketmaster selling tickets to a Radiohead show at Bally’s in Las Vegas, we get wind of news that ticketmaster.com saying that tickets for Radiohead will be going on sale tomorrow morning at 10 AM. We’re pretty sure this is a mistake folks.

If you want to see the goof, you have to select “Philadelphia” as your location and look to the bottom right of the page.

Move along, there’s nothing left to see…

(via Mortigi Tempo)

UPDATE Saturday 7:42 AM PT: Ticketmaster took down the mistake.

OKX: A Tribute to OK Computer

okx_cover.jpg
Stereogum has put up a covers compilation album called OKX: A Tribute to OK Computer where they asked various artists to record a song from the legendary OK Computer album.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Radiohead’s OK Computer we’ve asked some of our favorite musicians to participate in a song-by-song covers compilation. Indicative of the album’s continued importance, each invitee jumped at the chance; the results are personal, intense, tellingly various. Slow down, dig in, enjoy. But note: we did this all legal and everything, so we can’t keep these up forever…get ’em before someone else does. Ambition makes you look pretty.

Here’s the tracklist:
Doveman – “Airbag”
Slaraffenland – “Paranoid Android”
Mobius Band – “Subterranean Homesick Alien”
Vampire Weekend – “Exit Music (For a Film)”
David Bazan’s Black Cloud – “Let Down”
John Vanderslice – “Karma Police”
Samson Dalonoga feat. The Found Sound Orchestra – “Fitter Happier”
Cold War Kids – “Electioneering”
The Twilight Sad – “Climbing Up the Walls”
Marissa Nadler feat. Black Hole Infinity – “No Surprises”
My Brightest Diamond – “Lucky”
Flash Hawk Parlor Ensemble – “The Tourist”
