More Stanley Stuff

Wow, Stanley Donwood has been generating a lot of news lately! We have received the latest word from the Slowly Downward camp that chapter 2 from Stan’s online novel “My Giro” is available.

A SMALL ANNOUNCEMENT:
The second chapter of My Giro will be available to download as a PDF
from www.slowlydownward.com from the 12th May.
The first chapter will still be available too. In case you missed it.
For those unfamiliar with the term, ‘giro’ is short for ‘girocheque’,
which is what you get every fortnight if you are on the dole in the UK.
If you’re lucky.
-Stanley Donwwod, prop. Slowly Downward Manufactory.

Speaking of Mr. Donwood, NME is now giving away a one off print of the artwork of “Operation Phantom Fury” signed by Stanley. Enter to win here.

Radiohead loves your cookies

Looks like a new page has been added to the official Radiohead website. If you go to the “scrapbook” area and click a few links, you’ll notice a “leave” link at the bottom right. That page (click here for it) describes what’s going on with those buttons everywhere.

Most of the sites that most people visit throw you cookies which you accept without realising, unless you have configured your web browser to alert you about this. This information – the pages you visit, the choices you make, the interests you express, where you come from, the frequency of your visits, and so on – is extremely valuable. There are hundreds of companies, employing countless people, that exist for this very purpose. We don’t sell the information that we get from you – instead, stupidly, we use it to make graphs. For no reason at all, except perhaps to alert vigilant visitors to what’s being done with the information they volunteer every time they open up their web connection.

Very interesting…
(thanks to Phil)

The Music and Art of Radiohead to be released 5/28.

Joseph Tate (of Pulk-Pull.org) has been working on his book for some time, and he’s written in to let us know he finally has a release date. The Music and Art of Radiohead will be out on May 28th.
He also let us know that you can read the introduction online here. It’s worth a look…most Radiohead books have been glorified Tiger Beat biographies, but Joseph’s collection of essays from noted intellectuals promises to be significantly more interesting, even for the fan that knows it all.

BRITNEY WATCH 2005: She’s a fan of Radiohead

britney_zwanger26.jpg
Seriously people, we cringed at the thought of posting anything Britney on this site but we just couldn’t resist this. Mrs. Spears was photographed with a copy of Pablo Honey recently. Why is this important news? It’s not. We’re going to take this moment to beg Radiohead to start generating headlines so we don’t have to post stuff like this. Heck, we’ll even take some pictures of Phil Selway getting in to his car with a Britney CD if you got them! Anything!
If you want to see the entire set of Britney pictures, you can here.

Pitchfork Media reviews new songs.

In their singles review section, Pitchfork Media reviewed the two new Radiohead songs played at the recent Trade Justice Rally, giving them three stars. Sort of.

When Yorke leaked a few weeks ago, Mark Richardson joked he didn’t see why anyone would actually want to hear the song for the first time– or any song– in such a compromised state: Live bootleg recording, sub-128kbps rip, mostly unintelligible and probably not how the artist would want the song to be experienced initially anyway. This is no-good voyeurism, mum caught kissing Clause for what– double-presents and heard-it-first cred?
We’re data whores simply because we can be– that’s one reason– a respectable downloader possessing at least three or four gigs of music on the FireWire he’s still probably not listened to (but he keeps queueing up more). Here comes the old horse: “Hear it first” trumps “hear it best” trumps “maybe sorta have a relationship with a song like you did when three CDs and a few cassingles were all you had.”
That’s too much, but seriously, why did I download these songs (from longtime Radiohead site ateaseweb.com) again? The crowd in attendance– talking throughout both songs, probably about how the person making this bootleg had headgear or looked like the Napster cat– surely must have access to some Truman Show-type booth where they watch us squirm for mindfucks. The songs are awesome, I think.
