Radiohead returned to the stage last night for the first time since the tragic death of drum tech, Scott Johnson. If you’ll recall, Johnson was killed during a stage collapse last month in Toronto which forced the band to delay the tour.

The band did not disappoint last night at Les Arena in Nimes, France, starting off the set with “Lucky”, something they hadn’t done since 1998. Another huge highlight was the live premiere of “Treefingers”, the instrumental track from Kid A. Here’s a video:

For the third encore, Thom Yorke thanked the crew and dedicated “Reckoner” to Johnson, whose picture was displayed behind the band during the performance.

The full setlist is below. The band return to Les Arena tonight for their second show.

Vote Killerbear?

Vote Killerbear? If you visit the city of Nottingham (UK) you may see little posters of the Radiohead bear with the words “Vote Killerbear”. They are apparently in a lot of locations as documented here. What are they for? Who put them up? Did the band have something to do with it? These are questions that we can’t answer. Maybe it has something to do with the upcoming elections on June 7.

The NME has given Amnesiac an 8 of 10 rating. {thanks to Chris}

The setlist and review for last night’s show in Verona, Italy is here.

Thom, Colin, and Jonny appeared on Mark and Lard yesterday live from Verona. Thom and Colin played Wheel of Misfortune in which Thom confessed that they had picked “The Tourist” for the encore in France only to discover that they couldn’t remember (talk about Amnesia!) the last chord to the the song! They discovered this about 2 minutes before they went on stage and couldn’t locate a copy of OK Computer so the song was ditched. You can listen to the Thom and Colin’s Wheel of Misfortune and the Yes No Game with Thom at the Mark and Lard Site. The full interview should be available Online soon. {thanks to Paul}

To hear Thom’s solo version of “Pyramid Song” from the same show, check out http://www.kornmuse.fr.st. Apparently Jonng was itching to play drums with a Yamaha Beatbox or something… 🙂 {thanks to Titof}

News for January 11, 2000

The folks at Music Online have Radiohead’s official website listed as their “Band Site We Love to Hate” for 1999. Here is what was said:

“The official Radiohead website tops the list of sites that leave visitors beautifully confused and vexed. The site is cryptic and clever– and boy is it a bother to navigate. If you can make it inside, you’ll find hidden gems that really are worth the trouble to find. Warning: Be sure to engage brain before entering.”

In Israel, Radiohead scored again on the year-end polls. Israeli Galgaltz Radio and TV Channel 3 have Radiohead’s “Creep” at #3 and “Karma Police” at #98 in their “Top Songs of the Century” poll.

Over in Tel-Aviv, “Creep” made it to #9 in their radio poll. [thanks to Dan]

The French music magazine, Best, is reporting in their January issue that Radiohead has a planned concert date in the summer. They go on and say that there will be “an only date from Radiohead in a big French festival (Les Eurock»ennes?) this summer, before a tour scheduled for fall.”

They also say that the new album has a “release-date scheduled for May or June.”

Now of course, these are just rumors…[thanks to Xavier]

Stay tuned for more info as it becomes available.

While we’re talking about rumors…
Apparently there is a rumor circulating that RH will be touring Australia in July to support the new album. Don’t get excited yet. There will be tons of rumors just like it in the coming months. Just so you know…
