OK Computer Radiohead Thom Yorke

News for April 2, 1998

Boy oh boy! The excitement today! For those of you that don’t know, Thom supposedly got into a fight with a KROQ radio DJ yesterday morning. I guess many people didn’t look at their calendars when they got up. For a complete report on this April Fool’s joke, click here.

Ok, I admit. It had me going for a second.

From the Army of Lovers Headquaters website:

“Tralala Productions are considering [NOTE that I said “considering”, but it is a possibility] taking legal action against the British band Radiohead (on behalf of Army of Lovers and songwriters Alexander Bard, Anders Wollbeck and Jean-Pierre Barda) on grounds of plagiarism. The song “Exit Music (For a Film)” from Radiohead’s critically acclaimed 1997 album OK Computer has a chorus very similar to that of Army of Lovers’ hit “Crucified” from 1991.”

OK Computer Radiohead tour

News for March 21, 1998

From Spin Online:

“Radiohead Sells Out

Radiohead will again play the Tibetan Freedom Concert this June, joining a superstar line-up that already includes Beck and R.E.M. and will, most likely, feature The Beastie Boys and U2. The band, currently gearing up for a sold-out American tour, played on last year’s bill at New York’s Randall’s Island. In other Radiohead news, a fan website is reporting a rumor that the band are being sued by an obscure dance act called Army of Lovers for allegedly stealing the melody from their song “Crucified” for the OK Computer track “Exit” A spokesperson for the band had no knowledge of the suit and as far as we know, it hasn’t been filed.”

and from Rolling Stone Online:

“Avenging Angels

Blur, Sinead O’Connor and Sugar Ray star on The Avengers soundtrack
Extraordinary crimes against the people and the State have to be avenged by The Avengers soundtrack, starring Blur, Radiohead, the Verve Pipe, Sinead O’Connor and Sugar Ray. And, just for good measure, Tori Amos, Annie Lennox, Stereo MCs, and possibly Beck and Prodigy, will do some avenging of their own.

The powerhouse lineup of modern rockers will join together for the sole purpose of raking in cash and adding contemporary flair to the film adaptation of the ’60s tongue-in-check spy adventure TV series, which stars Ralph Fiennes and Uma Thurman. The soundtrack will hit stores in early July, prior to the film’s release.

Earlier this month, Radiohead entered a London studio to record a song, tentatively-titled “Big Boots,” for the soundtrack. According to the band’s co-manager Bryce Edge, Radiohead reserves the right to not give the song to Atlantic Records if it ‘turns out to be a turkey.’ ”

The Airbag/ How am I Driving? EP wil be released on April 7 in the US. The tracklisting is:
1. Airbag (album version)
2. Pearly*
3. Meeting in the Aisle
4. A Reminder
